Magnetic Dynamics of Nanoscale Magnets: From Classical to Quantum

چکیده

The various uncommon properties of magnetic nanoparticles (Stoner nanoparticles) and molecular magnets have attracted much attention in industry as well as in the academic community. In this review we begin with going through important experiments in this field and possible applications of these materials. Then we introduce the theoretic models currently used for Stoner nanoparticles and molecular magnets respectively. They are the Stoner-Wohlfarth model and the Landau-LifshitzGilbert(LLG) theory in the former case and the quantum macrospin model for the latter one. In the end we give a brief discussion on the shortcomings of these models and propose a possible approach to build a mesocopic magnetic dynamical theory.

Resonant Magnetization Tunneling in Molecular Magnets

The frontier between the classical and quantum worlds can be approached in one of two ways: from the top down or the bottom up. The top-down approach entails starting with an essentially classical variable (e.g. the flux in a superconducting loop, the charge on a small superconducting island or the magnetization of a single-domain magnetic particle) and squeezing down the size of the system (th...

A Renormalization Approach to Simulations of Quantum Effects in Nanoscale Magnetic Systems

Simulation of the dynamics of nanoscale systems are usually restricted to a purely classical description, which becomes inadequate once technological minimization reaches scales on which quantum mechanical effects become relevant. In this paper we propose a multiscale approach to estimate quantum corrections to such classical descriptions. Quantum fluctuations in a quantum magnet are absorbed i...

Covalently linked dimers of clusters: loop- and dumbbell-shaped Mn24 and Mn26 single-molecule magnets.

Molecular clusters of paramagnetic 3d transition metals continue to be a major research area because of their fascinating physical properties and their complex structures. In particular, they often have high-spin ground states and easy-axis-type magnetic anisotropy, giving a significant energy barrier to reversal of the magnetization vector. Thus, at sufficiently low temperatures they function ...

Possible observation of highly itinerant quantum magnetic monopoles in the frustrated pyrochlore Yb2Ti2O7

The low-energy elementary excitations in frustrated quantum magnets have fascinated researchers for decades. In frustrated Ising magnets on a pyrochlore lattice possessing macroscopically degenerate spin-ice ground states, the excitations have been discussed in terms of classical magnetic monopoles, which do not contain quantum fluctuations. Here we report unusual behaviours of magneto-thermal ...

Nontrivial resonance of nanoscale uniaxial magnets to alternating field

How nanoscale uniaxial magnets respond to an alternating field is studied by direct numerical calculation. A nontrivial oscillation of the magnetization is found, which is analyzed in terms of the non-adiabatic transition due to the time dependent field. A new method to estimate the tunneling gap of the magnet is proposed. 75.40.Gb,76.20,76.90 Typeset using REVTEX 1 The quantum dynamical behavi...
